Christmas 1978 - Part 2 of 3 (Teaneck, NJ, Dec 1978)

More photos from the Christmas of 1978.

Earlier, I blogged the four generations of Fisher boys. If you click on the photo, and look carefully at the background, you can see that this is three of us.

Christmas 1978 - Part 1 of 3 (Teaneck, NJ, Dec 1978

Dave(y) was the first of his generation in all of our families. This was his first Christmas, and we had tons of company. He had just turned one, and could already walk. You can see the transition of the tree from something that had to be attended to every minute, to having a chair block his way.

Look at the chair blocking access to the tree.

One of the last trees before the ubiquitous red cardinal made its appearance on the tops.

Betty and George still lived 5 minutes away in Teaneck (not a coincidence, Betty found our house for us), so we were able to see a lot of them and their kids.

Betty's and Rae's Families (Bronx, NY, and California, ~1957 and ~1995)

Back in Miami, and now I have access to the 6,000 old family pictures again.

The left-most child below is my cousin Verne (Cousin #17/Ray's #2), who I've somehow missed in all these pictures. Just two more of my 19 first cousins to go! To the right of him are his sister Marci, and Ilene and Larry in front of Betty and George.

And here are the four of them again, about 50 years later.

Harry Littman (New York, around 1960)

Harry Littman was Willa's first husband, and the father of her daughter Jill. When I was in my early teens, Harry often let me/encouraged me to do things my parents wouldn't have approved of (e.g. I drove on the NJ Turnpike at about age 13). Jill now lives in South Florida, so we've had a little contact with her (and I have a picture of her somewhere to add to my 1st cousin collection). Harry eventually also moved to South Florida, and had a wine bar in Fort Lauderdale, but died about 3 years ago.

At some point, Harry sold cameras for a living, at one of the big midtown camera stores (I think he did that a lot). He loaned me a very small Minolta camera, and I took the first picture I ever took, in a taxi on our way to an amusement park in NY. Here's the picture, it is of Larry, with Betti Joy looking on at the left.

Marci and Larry (various places and times)

The two oldest of my 19 first cousins were born when I was about nine years old: Betty's son Larry, and Rae's daughter Marci (Cousin #15/Rae's #1). I saw a lot of both of them at first, but I saw little of Marci after she was very small, since I was in Syracuse and Rae at some point moved to California. I continued to see a lot of Larry, since he has always lived in the NY area, and I stayed with Betty a lot when I was a teenager racing off to NYC at every opportunity. Here is Marci with Elizabeth just before my parents' 50th anniversary party.

And Marci and Larry with their mothers. I believe that Larry was born in the fall of 1954, and I would guess he's a little over two here.

And Larry, with his wife Judy, at our house in Woodbridge, sometime in the mid-to-late 1980s.

Three Pictures from Betti Joy's Wedding (Somewhere in NJ, probably late 1970s)

It's Sunday, so family event picture. I like this picture because back and center is Larry, my mother's nephew at my father's niece's wedding, as was typical then (the two large families were very close). Seated left to right: me, Elizabeth (just a sleeper, but we were sometimes pretty tired at my cousins' weddings--with 19 first cousins, there were many--because we brought our kid(s)), Mike (Moose, Betsy's ex-husband), Betsy (Cousin #2/Sam's #1.5), unknown. Standing: Larry (Cousin #3/Betty's #1), Judy (Larry's wife), unknown couple. Betti, whose wedding it was and is pictured below, is Annie's first daughter. Now I've got pix of 5 of my 19 first cousins in this collection.

Front: Willa, Annie, my grandmother Rose Fisher, Lisa, I'm pretty sure that's Lisa, anyway, she sure looks like Annie (Cousin #4/Annie's #2). Back: unknown, Annie's husband Stretch (Irving), Betti (Cousin #5/Annie's #1), Joe (Betti's husband), Sam, my father.

Front: my mother, Willa, Rose, unknown couple. Back: my father, Annie, Sam, Sue, Stretch.
