Paul got hit while riding his bike in Chestnut Hill (I think I have this, and the approximate date and location, correct in the title of this entry), and had an ankle break that has caused him trouble for a long time. This is in Paul and Susan's apartment on Harvard Ave in Brookline (no, not Harvard St, a main street in Brookline, nor Harvard Ave in Boston, which Harvard St. turns into in Allston).
The painting on the wall is Elizabeth's, and is the painting of hers that I'm most fond of. It belongs to Paul, and has had a prominent place wherever he has lived since then (he says hanging it is one of the first things he does whenever they move).
